A while back, a friend of mine asked for this track by Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) after he had heard it playing in the car. So here it is, accompanied with a little Reinhardt anecdote, which I’m very sure he’ll appreciate. On November, second, nineteen twenty-eight, Reinhardt’s caravan caught fire. As a result of the freak incident, Reinhardt’s left ring finger and pinky were permanently immobile. He could use them on the first two strings of the guitar for chords and octaves but complete extension of these fingers was impossible. His solos were all done with the index and middle fingers. This track was recorded on March, ten, nineteen fifty-three.

Here’s another interpretation of Brazil by Cornelius (a.k.a. Keigo Oyamada) from the album, Point. In case you’re wondering, that’s a 1979 Roland CR78 CompuRhythm he’s using. You’ll want to know this because one day you may get tired of your day job and decide you want to start a band again. Only all your ex-band mates are married. So you figure you’ll do it on your own with a trusty computer. Before long, you can’t listen to a decent tune like this without asking, “how did they get that sound?” And when that day comes, you will thank me.
